The Good News of Jesus Christ

Something Worth Knowing...

In the Bible, God tells you that He loves you, and that He has a purpose for your life.  God’s desire is that you receive Jesus Christ as your own personal Lord and Savior—this is the beginning of God’s purpose for your life.  This is what it means to be “born again,” as stated in the Bible.  “Jesus answered and said to [Nicodemus], ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God’” (John 3:3, New King James Version will be used consistently throughout this sharing of information with you).

Another item worth knowing is that you can know that you have eternal life.  The Bible teaches this in 1 John 5:13.

However, before a person can be “born again” (which also means becoming a Christian), one must know some spiritual truths.  Thus, something worth knowing is the following truths:

  1. God reveals to us in the Bible that we are sinners.  “As it is written, ‘There is none righteous, no, not one’” (Romans 3:10).  “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  Please note: We all have the same problem—a sin problem.

  2. God reveals to us in the Bible that there are consequences for our sins. “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).  “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a).  Please note: The consequence of sin is threefold: separation from God, physical death, and spiritual death.

  3. God reveals to us that we may be saved.  This is good news (i.e., the Gospel).  The good news is that Jesus Christ provided the way for us to be saved.  Jesus Christ is the only way for us to be saved.  Jesus Christ died for your sins.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  Who is Jesus?  He is God come in the flesh—He is all God (100 %); He is all man (100 %).  Jesus never sinned.  Jesus died on the cross for your sin debt.  Jesus died, was buried, and rose on the third day.  Jesus is alive and is willing to save you from your sin and give you eternal life.  That truly is something worth knowing.

  4. Fourth, God reveals to us that in order to be saved repentance and faith are needed.  You must repent of your sins and place your faith in Jesus.  Repentance is turning from your sin and turning toward God.  Faith is placing your trust in Jesus to save your soul.  “I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying…repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21-22).  “But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).  “But without faith it is impossible to please Him (God)” (Hebrews 11:6a). Please note: In order to be saved, one must realize that he/she is lost and that he/she cannot save himself/herself.  Only Jesus can save you.  If you realize you are lost and that if you died right now you would not go to Heaven, I invite you to pray:
"Father, I know that I am a sinner, that You love me, that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to die  for me on the cross and pay my sin debt.  I also believe He rose on the third day and that He is alive today.  I receive Jesus into my heart as the Lord of my life.  Amen.
If you mean this prayer, Jesus will give you eternal life and come into your heart.  That is something worth knowing.  It has an eternal consequence.

  5. God reveals to the person who has received Jesus that he/she should serve Him.  “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).  Ways to Serve the Lord Jesus Christ:

    1. Profession: Confess Jesus before men, publicly “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

    2. Baptism: Be obedient and follow Christ’s example “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 2:38a). “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized” (Acts 2:41).

    3. Church: Unite with a body of  believers “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved”(Acts 2:47b).

    4. The Bible: Read God’s Word daily “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39). “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God…rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

    5. Prayer: Talk with God daily “In this manner, therefore pray” (Matthew 6:9).

    6. Witness: Share your faith in Christ daily “And you are witnesses of these things” (Luke 24:48)
